Getting mail notification for a post which does not exist here?

I received a mail notification with a post to an old topic of mine:

but when checking the very topic such post does not exist, the last post ist still the one dd. Sept. 2024, see What fits better: baptistery or font? - #5 by Map_HeRo.

No idea how this is possible, even if the post would have been deleted after posting it would still remain for 24 hours which have not yet passed. Weird fact is that the mail is dated exactly 00:00 from tonight …

Any idea how this is possible?

It was spam; I deleted it.

Such a simple solution … :joy: … I should have known it’s something like that but it hit me to early today making me waste 15 minutes of time thinking about what may have happend.

Just interested: How did you find out it’s spam - the text does not look like such. Any hidden message incorporated?

Not that well hidden. A spam link to some font generator site has been added to the “quote” the spammer pretends to respond to.

Sure - I should have seen that, too - not my day today … … Thanks anyhow!

The first thing that I spotted was the “necroposting” - waking up a dormant topic.

The second thing was that the reply was “slightly off” - it didn’t really add any value and did not look as if it had been written by a human.

Only then did I spot the “edited quote”

Sometimes spam links are better hidden than this one (personally I’d welcome a view mode that optionally made them more obvious), but even if it had been the first two points would have suggested to me that it needed more careful reading.

Well, we have many posts like that so that alone would not make me suspicious …

… which should probably have waked me up, too, but it didn’t. Too early in the morning.
Lesson learned: Don’t open my emails before having had the first coffee.

I sometimes (but not always) go into edit mode. Sometimes you can see hidden links better that way – but there’s no guarantee.
