geko 201 connection problems

I recently purchased a geko 201 from ebay, but whatever I try, I cannot seem to be able to make a connection with my pc. I’m running KUbuntu 8.10 & gpsbabel 1.3.5. I connect my device with a rs232 to usb adapter. I followed the instructions to make that adapter work, and I get confirmation that

usb 3-2: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0

so I guess the adapter isn’t the problem. When I try to download a track that I made with it, I get this:

gpsbabel -D9 -i garmin -f /dev/ttyUSB0 -o gpx -F foobar.gpx
Tx Data:10 fe 00 02 10 03 : ...(PRDREQ )
[ERROR] GPS_Packet_Read: Timeout. No data received.
GARMIN:Can't init /dev/ttyUSB0

Can anyone help ? I’ve tried using a windows pc with usb, and a kubuntu pc with serial connection, nothing helps :frowning:

I think you should ask this question on the GPS device specific forums as there is more experience with all types of GPS devices. But maybe someone here has a clue…
