I am trying to create a route along the shore of Lake Garda in Italy and of course this must include the famous “Strada della forra” (James Bond).
But, no matter what I try (and I tried a lot, see below) the Basecamp route will not enter.
If I manually move a “route point” on this road, the route seems to skip the entrance and draws a straight line. This usually points to a fault in the map (it is an openstreetmap, and I tried also on the latest update)
So, I checked the map on openstreetmap.org and apart from the road being divided into lots of segments, it seems fine and connects to the main road.
I tried other activity profiles (bicycling came close, but of course does not enter the main road) but nothing works. I tried another map (also based on OSM) and the same happened.
I remove all route-creation avoidances etc.
I tried to change the direction. (but I know the way I want it to enter is correct)
I can’t think of anything else to do.
So I am kind of stuck.
On OsmAnd this problem does not exist, but I need the route for a Garmin device.
If anyone can have a look at the OSM map, maybe try to create a route and let me know what is going on and what can be done, that would be great.
It has to be a motorcycle-route by the way.
Not sure if I understand correctly. Do you say that the routing works fine in other places but not at the desired road or doesn’t it work at all?
Please provide details about the Garmin map that is used. Where did you get it?
The routing works fine in other places.
It does not want to go on this particular road. The problem seems to be in the first few hundred meters of the road. If I go past the first turn, the routing works fine again.
I tried with two maps:
OSM Italy from https://alternativaslibres.org and OSM MapTourist South EN 2024-11-30 from https://maptourist.org/
On both maps the result is the same.
When I create a route from the beginning of the road to the end it refuses to use the first segment of the road until after the first turn.
After that, it works fine.
This is tagged as access=no and bicycle=yes, implying that it is closed to all traffic (including pedestrians) except for bicycles. So based on the tagging, routers are correct to avoid it for motorcycles.Other segments of this street don’t have the access=no tag.
This street has a fairly complicated history of changes to access tagging - the most recent addition of that access=no tag was just a few months ago. There are also a couple of unresolved notes referring to access restrictions, one talking about the street (or part of it) being closed at certain times, another about the street (or part of it) being one-way. As I’m not familiar with the area it’s hard to interpret what “real world” situation all these things are trying to express.
So the starting point would be to establish exactly what access restrictions, if any, currently apply to all segments of the street.
I did some digging and apparently the road is temporarily closed due to a landslide last year. It is expected to re-open this January, but it depends on the findings from some geological survey they are doing.
So, that explains my route-problem.
As soon as I find out it has re-opened I will post that here, so it can be adjusted.
