Flightsim 2024 - OSM data

Microsoft Flightsim 2024 is one of MS most popular games, with millions of users, and it uses OSM data to create buildings, roads, antennas etc.

I’ve noticed a few issues with OSM features being askew on the FS2024 base map, and discovered it’s because whoever created the OSM map used ERSI rather than Bing data, FS2024 is using Bing satellite imagery.

I don’t know how often FS2024 pulls OSM data (or how), and I’ve reached out to the developers for more information.

Is there anyone here at OSM who might have more information about this and how we can better contribute to the flightsim community?

Also, is there a way to move large sections of map to better match Bing satellite imagery, rather than ERSI, and or if this should be done at all?

ESRI is only one of the available sources used for background images. There are several others, besides Bing. Which is used depends much how accurate they are in a specific place, and on personal preferences.

Can you give an example location where this is the case? One near north-south and east-west roads would be great.

It may well be that ESRI imagery is actually closer to reality than Bing imagery is (we’ll be able to check that by looking at GPS traces). If that’s the case, it’s Microsoft’s in-game satellite imagery that is misaligned, not OSM, and you’ll need to log the bug with them(!).
