Fixing forward role in relation

I got the following warning when using JOSM to work on an area in Denmark: https://troels.arvin.dk/osm/josm/sshot_role_verification_problem-20251004.png : “Role verification problem - Role ‘forward’ is not among expected values…”

The particular nodes which seem to be the problem are outside the area I’ve been working on, but I would try to fix it anyway. My problem is I don’t understand what can be done about it.

The area is here: (OSM link to the Furesø lake).

Any suggestions for what needs to be done?

Relation: ‪Furesø rundt‬ (‪12747406‬) is listed as route=hiking which does actually have the forward/backward roles documented on the wiki so I would not interpret a warning here as “something is definitely wrong”.

That said, it is unusual for a route on foot to really be one way. The three ways with those roles appear to be tagged as one way cycleways. If it is permissible for a pedestrian to walk against traffic on those ways it might be a situation where you’d want to remove that role from those elements in the relation.

The relation is this walking route:

This has 3 members with the “forward’ role. This is unusual for walking and hiking routes. The solution would depend on what exactly mappers were trying to convey, e.g. are those specific sections one way for walkers?

That said, you shouldn’t feel obliged to solve every warning in an area you happen to be editing. If you are not helped to editing route relations they can be tricky (and the warnings from editors may be misleading or unhelpful)

Edit: looks like I was typing at the same time as @InsertUser, excuse any duplication…
