Ahoj,
how to map a sickbay?
It is a facility for simple medical treatment or first aid, but not a hospital, and also not the typical “doctor” place.
A doctor might be available, but also only paramedics might be there.
Sickbays might be available at facilities where usually there are a lot of people doing activities (e.g. sports centre, holiday resorts, … – if appropriate, to be tagged with e.g. access=customers
and maybe intermittend opening times if only opened seasonally) or as an intermediate to a hospital (e.g. on ships, which is not to be mapped in OSM).
Typical use cases for sickbays are “simple” issues like treating surface wounds, strains, removing ticks; or doing first aid, and triaging if further medical treatment is necessary.
I did not found anything documented about this in the wiki.
In the forum, I found an old discussion from 2015, but that discussion is more weather that specific instance should be mapped at all (because it is not open to the public).
Regards!
There is amenity=first_aid
used some 200 times so far.

Ah. Тhanks for this find.
Searching the wiki for first_aid
, I find
How do they differ?
And: Shouldn’t this be included in the healthcare=*
-scheme?
Regards!
Spot on! “first aid” would fit to amenity, emergency and healthcare as well. I searched under “amenity” because most medical facilities had been mapped as “amenities” before that has changed to “healthcare”.
Following the actual scheme it should be “healthcare” instead, but the wikipage stub for emergency=first_aid
says that healthcare=first_aid
is a tagging mistake although I don’t think this was discussed anywhere.
In use:
amenity=first_aid
- 235
emergency=first_aid
- 135
healthcare=first_aid
- 20
health_facility:type=first_aid
- 259
plus some more name=First_Aid
which is definitely wrong.
To my own understanding in fact a first_aid station is more a emergency thing than a healthcare facility.
If you are looking for more opinions you could probably change your topic title to something like “Which key should be used with first_aid
?”. Hopefully that would attract more participants giving input which could be helpful to improve the documentation in the wiki.

Hah!,
thanks to
I found the wiki page Key:health_facility:type
.
There it is written:
health_facility:type=first_aid
: A first aid station/facility. These can be found e.g. on beaches. This is usally a small facility where you can get first aid from paramedics or volunteers. Please add emergency=yes
, if applicable. See also emergency=ambulance_station
.
which actually fits really well what I originally meant.
I am a bit confused though that health_facility:type=*
exist, but not health_facility=*
, and also *=health_facility
I cannot find so far in the wiki.
Done: “First_aid – How to tag sickbays, and which key should be used with *=first_aid
?”
health_facility:type=first_aid
I agree to that but I have never used or seen the key health_facility:type=*
before. To my understanding it describes exactly the same thing as defined under emergency=first_aid
saying
A first aid facility outside of a hospital, such as those in amusement parks.
and as such I would surely prefer emergency=first_aid
as it is more simple. Just my personal opinion
.

OK, tagged it such.
By the way, the wiki site on emergency=fitst_aid
says that health_facility:type=first_aid
should not be used, but the wiki page Key:health_facility:type
actually mentions that.
How to deal with that confusing wiki information? How to consolidate? Leave a note at the site Key:health_facility:type
?
Regards!
Yes, I have noted that, too. It would have been nice to get some more input on this issue but apparently not many mappers are interested in “first_aid” or they are all happy with the bunch of different *=first_aid
available.
I will just add a comment on the wiki page for health_facility:type=*
with a link to the emergency=first_aid
page.
I must say that health_facility:type
appears to me as some duplicate of healthcare
, at least in parts. Again it is strange that there is no “health_facility” as you have noted earlier. Another duplication is health_speciality
against healthcare:speciality
. Apparently two competing tagging schemes but there are no links in between them as far as I have seen.
Anyhow this is off_topic here so I don’t care.
