Few street names attributes

Hi

When I look at the city of Montral on the Openstreetmap original map, all street names are there.
But when I download the Quebec province data from http://download.geofabrik.de/osm/
only few street names are available in field “name”…
Idea?

Can you give us some examples for certain roads?

Best would be a permalink from the OSM main site.

What software are you using the OSM extract in?

I have to wonder how up-to-date the Geofabrik dumps are and if they do anything to them. My understanding is that they’re not affiliated with OSM and their dumps are not direct copies of OSM data.

I extract bz2 with osm2pgsql.
Is there a bz2 built directly from osm?

No!

That is the purpose of local extracts that are offered to download by geofabrik.de, cloudemade.com or others.

These extracts doesn’t have all attributes… That’s my main problem (first post)

Ok, seem that the problem is Geofabrik
Cloudmade (6 months old data) are better

The Geofabrik extracts are updated daily, and should contain all of the OSM data in that area.
Can you give a link to a specific street name that is missing?
Note that due to the licence change, there has recently been some data removed. I don’t know how much it affected Quebec, but it may have removed some names.
