Hi Folks, I am very new to this amazing project. I have a technical background and have successfully made some changes using the web editor on ubuntu linux inside Firefox. What I have attempted is to update a small area (where I happen to live). It is a small cul-de-sac with 13 properties and an established road. Prior to my edits the area was shown as a wooded area of green. I did manage to access that area and delete it but it still seems to remain when I open up the map again and I cannot select it at all currently. The street name is Aldhelm Rise and the postcode is SN13 9GY. My most recent search found the postcode but cannot find the street name. My question is how do I make the street name searchable? Perhaps I have misunderstood the tagging, or indeed missed something altogether about how to make features searchable?. I apologise if this is obvious but would appreciate a few pointers. Thx Paul
Hello and welcome!
The “still green” thing is likely just a browser / server cache thing (if it helps, if doesn’t look green to me any more). However the roads that you’ve added will need a highway
tag for things to realise that they’re a road (probably highway=residential
for a residential road). I’m a bit surprised that the in-browser editor let you add it without one
Also, around there you’ve added plots of land, and you’ll notice that normally it’s things like buildings that get added (as building=house
) with address tags.- and any fences / hedges / walls between houses.
Edit: Depending on your browser and system, one of the following key presses will try and avoid local cache:
Windows / Linux:
F5 or Ctrl+F5 or Shift+F5 or Ctrl+Shift+ r
macOS:
CMD + SHIFT + R
Thanks very much for helping. I have now downloaded JOSM which seems excellent! I also noticed you .ay have already mafe the efits! Cheers
Apologies finger trouble on my phone keypad sigh.
