Dundee OSM Meetup

Yesterday we had a meetup in Dundee, Scotland at a coffee shop. 7 of us were able to make it, and most stayed more than the planned hour so we took a group photo.

We talked about a few topics including:

  • Everydoor app
  • Open Waste Map
  • Golf courses
  • Why we map
  • vandalism
  • merchandise

I’m planning to do a video “How to organise an OpenStreetMap Meetup” on my “Mapper Diaries” youtube channel, which will explain some of the items you see for those that don’t know (but that won’t be posted for a few weeks).

One other thing we discussed is that we should have a chat group so we can discuss future meetups and local mapping issues/questions (if they’re not discussed here). But we need to decide what platform to use.
Please can you only vote on the poll if you’re local to Dundee area.

What platform should we (OSM Dundee) use?
  • Signal (as used by OSM Edinburgh)
  • WhatsApp
  • Slack (sub-group on Dundee Data Meetup)
  • Discord
  • E-mail
  • Other (please comment what)
  • I’m not in Dundee/won’t join it, but wanted to vote
0 voters

Those out of Dundee, I hope you enjoyed this report of the event and thanks for letting me put the poll here.

Cheers for organising yesterday’s meetup Gregory!

I also wanted to suggest Telegram and a standalone Slack workspace as options for a platform

I’m not based in Scotland, so probably none of my business. But shouldn’t a more open option be used such as matrix?

Or as a minimum ensure that they are bridged to matrix

I use the OSM Discord rooms via the bridge, I do not use Discord software or account.

I’ve created a signal group for “OSM Dundee”.

Please join if you’re based in/near Dundee.
