See Improving OpenStreetMap shop coverage with AllThePlaces for broader description of entire thing.
In short, ATP is dataset about POI locations based on what various brands publish.
I made comparison of OSM data and ATP data and found thousands of POIs apparently missing from OpenStreetMap.
The problem is that some ATP data is broken in various ways. I already found and reported/fixed some but if you have time to look at your local area it would be really welcome!
And who knows, maybe you will discover some new shop to check on your next walk. Maybe it will be even be there.
I am asking as I see potential in using this data for mapping but before any wider use I want to filter out any systematically broken data.
See https://matkoniecz.codeberg.page/improving_openstreetmap_using_alltheplaces_dataset/ where I publish match results for OSM-ATP comparison - zoom to area interesting you and click on area where you want to see listings.
Note: data issues such as “specific POI is offset by 10m / 100m / 400m” are sadly normal and not worth mentioning. That is why this data is in general not importable.
But if you see things like “all locations are massively offset” rather than “one of POIs is massively offset” please report it.
Or if something is listed as missing but was already mapped on 2024-09-22 and should be detected as not missing.
Even better, if ATMs are reported as banks or hot dog stands as fuel stations or fake shops are listed as existing - please tell me about this.
Please report such problems on https://codeberg.org/matkoniecz/improving_openstreetmap_using_alltheplaces_dataset/issues or write PM to me - via forum or to my OSM profile or simply in this thread.
