Divided dual lane carriage ways with no barrier - free crossing access?

In Saudi Arabia dual carriageways exist that have no physical barrier between the two directions of traffic, even thou they are separated by a distance (30ft+).

The implication is that from either direction it is possible to drive onto the verge of the opposing direction of travel (used to access tracks, etc). Similarly, U-turns can performed without restriction.

Is there anyway to mark the free (unrestricted) access between opposing directions of travel?

There are hundreds of kilometers of these roads.

yes, it is a known problem with dual carriageways where there is no real barrier between them. There is no established method to deal with it. I made once a proposal to record the fact, although it is not an information that someone uses currently, as far as I know.

Regardless of what the physical limitations of crossing the median are, you need to be cognizant of the legality of crossing it.

To me it’s not enough to say “there is an implication that it’s possible you could cross at any point”: are you legally allowed to?

By comparison there are thousands of kilometres of divided highways in Canada with no physical barriers between directions of travel, but I wouldn’t dream of mapping “free (unrestricted) access between opposing directions of travel”: (generally) it’s illegal to cross the medians except where specifically permitted.

I write all of this not knowing what the legality is in Saudi Arabia. Everything I’ve anecdotally heard about driving in Saudi Arabia suggests that enforcement of rules is nearly non-existent, but I would still endeavour to figure out the rules before contemplating these sorts of connections.

It’s enough to connect across them at intersections with those =track , =service , etc. You don’t need to consider routing for u-turn mid-block. The driver can simply do it, legally or illegally. No guidance required.
Unsure what separation= it should be, whether =greenery should be used for such central reservations Proposal:Separation - OpenStreetMap Wiki

Saudi road rules seem to be more focused on the principals of safe driving rather than devise a rule for every specific possibility (ie: there’s a rule for “Driving on the opposite direction.”).

Thanks for the suggestions. Looking at other road areas in the country I can see joins between directions of travel. This appears to be the best way.
