Hi!
I searched OSM wiki and I found only fuel:discount. So, the issue:
how to tag if shop/restaurant/etc. gives discounts for big families / cyclists / classic cars / motorcyclists? Or such tag doesn’t exist and I need to create a proposal?
Mapping the prices of products that are sold is waaaaaaaayyyyyy outside the scope of OSM. This is mainly because stores etc. may offer a wide variety of products, and prices (as well as discounts) tend to change too frequently to maintain in OSM. If we started mapping prices and discounts, we’d only end up with a boatload of quickly outdated tags, so I recommend not using OSM to save this information.
That applies to the exact discount rate, which can still be supplemented by linking to relevant websites. The existence of long-term discounts (not promotion campaigns) may be considered, as done for free parking. Eg shops selling fresh food can always offer discounts, buy-some-get-some-free, after some time at night. That’s meaningful to reduce food waste while saving money. An international chain department store or supermarket locally always offer discounts for everything on certain days weekly, and monthly, causing crowds and long queue that make you want to avoid it.
There are 36 discount:students | Keys | OpenStreetMap Taginfo =yes
, =no
. Also potentially useful is the few reusable_packaging:discount=
, takeaway:discount=
.
OK, I don’t get it fully…
discount:students is OK or not?
I was asking with hope we have any tag to show which kind of discount programs are accepted. Like in Kurozwęki Palace. Jean Popiel (last owner) was motorcyclist and all motorcycles have free parking. Or big family card - governmental discount program in PL. I didn’t want to add any discount value/rate, but simple information like discount:program=payback,own,big_family,classic_cars. There is something similar for payment methods and that was my inspiration.
