Diffs unexplainable

I wonder why the diffs are so strange, if you just add something below an existing paragraph, it tries everything to hide the simplicity:

I have seen the original post and the amendmend and wondered, what has happened there because it does not look normal, but the sample you attached does not show the problem clearly. It would have to look like:

The original text:

The amended text:

The original text after amendment:

What I believe has happened:

You wrote the new text (green colour) by using the words

das
sind
Topologiefehler

from the original text, removing the other words. That is why these words are neutral in the new text als well as the original. The other words from the original text show red because you removed them in the first step.

In the next step you added the original text once again at the top of your amended post, so it appears as “new” text.

Would that make sense?

I just added another paragraph below the existing text, I didn’t touch the existing text. What I would have expected is to see this: no deletions and just one paragraph added, the first paragraph remaining untouched.

In this case the software misinterpreted the change you made.

Usually any new text added while editing a post will show in green colour in the change window whereas text which was removed, moved or changed appears in red. Unchanged text remains neutral.

This works well, i check changes regularly to find out what has been going on. Never saw a mess like in your case which made me wonder how you managed to create that …

I think it may have to do with several edits I made, while the first paragraph remained untouched, I edited the second one several times and maybe this is the reason for the mess. I already had it several times, that’s why I finally opened this ticket.

Of course that is possible. It never happened to me before and what I wrote above would at least provide a logical explanation.

If the reason for the mess ist that the software cannot handle repeated editing of a text addendum the attention of the software engineers is required … :innocent:.

It’s useful to see what someone was yapping about before their long comment magically turned into a (post deleted by author)
