Difference between Golan heights and Moroccan Sahara

Why is the Golan hights a part of israel while it belong to Syria?
The UNO says it’s an occupied territory.
Why there are no Boundaries?
Morocco regaind his Moroccan sahara from the Spanish colonisator and there are boundaries on osm?
It doesn’t make sense.in real life there is no border at all.

Hi @alain2003 and welcome here!

Even if I don’t understand exactly your problem, you probably should read Disputed territories - OpenStreetMap Wiki

If I look at the tagging of Way: ‪Israel - Syria‬ (‪95034190‬) | OpenStreetMap, it is tagged with disputed_by=SY

dispute=yes should be disputed=yes instead :slight_smile:

Best regards

Yes but where is or was the original border with level=2?
you can not see that on the map
but for morocco you can see that. Why not remove this and make it also
`disputed_by=MA the SADR is now a country in a Country
that does not make sense. the SADR does not exist.

Are you referring here to Western Sahara being mapped in OpenStreetMap? Or to Ceuta etc? Or something else?

yes the southern provinces or Moroccan Sahara

OSM follows a principle of “reality on the ground”, so we map the zone where a country has actual authority over. For Morocco, this means the area west of the Saharan wall: Relation: ‪Morocco‬ (‪3630439‬) | OpenStreetMap

in this case OSM maps area controlled by Morocco and area controlled by Western Sahara/Polisario Front (both are smaller than what they claim)

What is national sovereignty? - #8 by SomeoneElse lists some details specific to this case

https://osmfoundation.org/w/images/d/d8/DisputedTerritoriesInformation.pdf has some more general information

OOh i see now how the disputed boundaries works on OSM, thanks for all for this clariffication.

With regard to the borders of Morocco, you might be interested in this other discussion happening at the moment. Currently people are trying to contact other mappers in the area who have some knowledge of the situation.

Thanks for info, indeed intresting topic, have no knewledge of that area but what i know is that boundaries southern of town Figuig are still in dispute with Algeria and Mauritania(the townsTindouf and Bechar are still claimed by Morocco)
