Currently I cannot upload any changes made with iD. Message
“An error ocurred when saving. Please make sure your computer ist connectd to the internet”
Yes, it is. Every website runs normal. I can also start a new iD session at a different location, edit objects, check wiki pages and the whole bunch but when I want to upload the message appears again.
Update: Just checked it again and now I also cannot start a new iD session - the background layer ist loading but not OSM objects any longer …
I just checked again a minute ago and now it worked but I think the problem is not really new. I am experiencing problems with loading iD since many weeks - it may take up to 15 minutes after pressing the “edit” button on the main page before the editor opens the editing window and then it still can take another minute or two until the OSM data have loaded.
It is really frustrating to waste such a lot of time waiting instead of being able to do mapping work. I have to add that I did never have these problems before, it startet around half a year ago, some days it’s fine but other days its really bad.
And it’s not only me, other users have reported the same problem in the german subforum repeatedly.
(For the record, I have changed the title of the thread from “Actual problems with iD editor” to “Current problems with iD editor” to correct a likely false-friend mistranslation of German aktuell which is “current” in English)
Had major problems uploading last night, just like @Map_HeRo. I tried logging in and out and then it worked for a short time. But next CS will be problematic again. I then switched to the direct link from iD, there a successful upload, then again no access (same message) - around midnight I gave up…
This morning I was able to do various little things straight away, hope it stays that way for the rest of the day!
I often struggle with loading problems here in the province on the outskirts of the city, but I thought (until now) that was more due to Telekom .
Good news (at least for now) - no problems with loading iD yesterday and today. For the first time since many weeks starting the editor and loading the data did not take longer than 15 seconds. I pray that it stays like that …
Unfortunately I’m not sure anyone has. It’s an elusive heisenbug. All we can say with any certainty is that it probably has little if anything to do with iD itself, probably the OSM API or whatever sits between you and the API in the network stack.
I was afraid it’s like that but just in case someone would have worked on that bug I did not want to walk away without saying “thanks”.
Nevertheless it is remarkable that after month of problems the data loading problem just stopped after there were some complaints here and on Github as well. And yes, I am aware that this is not an iD problem. Let’s see what happens next.
If it is an interaction with Cloudflare it could easily depend on what other people (maybe from the same AS or whatever) are doing, it wouldn’t be a surprise that it is intermittent then.
My professional background is building construction, not IT. I don’t know about Cloudflare and AS but I remember that in one of the topics dealing with the issue of poor access to the API someone mentioned Cloudflare earlier.
If Cloudflare causes the problem I assume that we did not use their services earlier, because the current problems startet around half a year ago or so.
The same problem again today. Any chance to get that fixed? It is definitely frustrating when every week you waste hours by waiting for a connection to the OSM database .
The website and API protection by cloudflare was installed during one of the last DDOS attacks. That was something like a couple of months back. It’s not secret, but it’s not really documented either.
That said, the issue in question would seem weird to be caused by this, and I’m sure the ops people considered it, but it is the thing that changed roughly in that time frame.
On the other hand the oldest report of the CORS issue seems to be just 3 weeks back so your issue might be something totally different. Did you check that that you are actually getting the CORS errors?
As I said I am not an IT expert … until some Minutes ago I did not even know what CORS means and I have no idea how to check if I am suffering of CORS errors (sounds like some weird infectional disease to me) but I can confirm the “How to reproduce” description from the Github issue
The follow up question would be: are you a Deutsche Telekom customer? There are well-known issues with peering between DT and cloudflare as @mmd mentions in the github issue.
Hello,
for several months now, I can hardly do any edits because the iD editor is loading very slowly or not starting at all. My internet is fine. All other pages are loading properly.
Is this a known issue?
