Are these solid red markings exclusive to crossings? The U.S. also increasingly paints bike lanes in solid green or in green stripes across intersections, but also across mixing zones and bike boxes and sometimes simply from end to end. In other words, it’s a marking rather than just a crossing marking.

As long as these markings are merely safety measures, I think both surface:colour=* and cycleway:surface:colour=* are sufficient, not to mention the whole road_marking=* tagging scheme. If there’s a deeper meaning, then we do need other tags, but I don’t think either crossing:markings=surface or crossing:markings=solid would be intuitive enough for mappers or data consumers to impart that deeper meaning.
