Correction of a park name, Auckland NZ

How does one ask Facebook to correct a location? It is confusing here in Blockhouse Bay as there is a Blockhouse Bay Recreation/Recreational Reserve and there is a Blockhouse Bay Beach Reserve. Facebook has the pin for the BBRR in the BBBR.

BBRR is here:

BB Beach Reserve is here:

As you can imagine it creates confusion when organising events.

Thanks in advance.

no idea, I guess you can try contacting Facebook or whoever setup this pin

note that it OpenStreetMap forum - are things mapped correctly in OSM?

Yes, looks all good Hope someone can help me contact Facebook or possibly Facebook will see this post and look into it themselves

Hi Jacqui,

OpenStreetMap appears to have these both mapped correctly.

Looking at the facebook page for ā€œBlockhouse Bay Recreational Reserveā€ it has a pin on a map for the other site. This is something done by facebook on their website. Itā€™s a bit like you sticking a literal metal pin into a paper map on a wall. Thereā€™s nothing OSM can do fix Facebooks mistakes.

In the bottom right of the map there is a (i). If you click on it you can report that the pin is in the wrong location.

With Facebook being a behemoth of a company, you canā€™t be sure what will happen to your report of the wrong location.

Thank you so much! I h adnā€™t noticed the little ā€˜iā€™ in the bottom right-hand corner. I have reported it.

Yes, thereā€™s no problem with the OpenStreetMap. But I thought (and I was right) that you in OSM would know what action to take. Thanks so much!

Jacqui, these maps are, as others have said, a combination of Open Street Map info with Meta information as well. The issue you are seeing is definitely due to an internal Meta/Facebook issue. These POIs are often created or associated with a Facebook page. The best way to fix this is to find the Facebook page that generated the location and suggest an edit. I just looked up https://www.facebook.com/pages/Blockhouse-Bay-Reserve-Beach/200121063893034 and I see that the location is definitely wrong. There is a button to ā€œsuggest editsā€. Once that window pops up there is a ā€œlocationā€ tab. I clicked on location and then moved the pin to the correct spot. The edit may take a bit for it to be processed, but Iā€™m hoping that this process works for you. The ā€œiā€ button on the map might also work, but since it doesnā€™t have a way to tell Meta where the correct location is it is not as good as the suggest location button.
I hope I get to visit the BBBR some day! Cheers!

The quality (or lack of it) of Facebookā€™s data is also been discussed over at https://en.osm.town/@pnorman/110795208735419541 and https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/overturemaps-org-big-businesses-osmf-alternative/6760/239. I did try asking in a channel where a few FB people are present, but it is the weekend.

editing Facebook is clearly offtopic here

Thanks everyone. I apologise for posting offtopic but as you have shown me the way to contact Facebook, this discussion can now be closed. And I do appreciate your help, thank you.
