Since this month, I work at the NCCN (Nationaal Crisiscentrum / Centre de Crise National). For now I’m focusing on collecting data for our new emergency planning and crisis management application, called Paragon. One of the many datasets we need are the firestations. We looked at official data and OSM, but there is no single perfect dataset around at this point.
OSM could easily become perfect though! That’s why I’m starting a small test project for the NCCN. If this is succesful, we might try it for other topics as well.
The job is simple: this wiki page lists all the fire station zones in Belgium with their website. For every zone, please check if all the places they mention on the site are mapped in OSM. Also check if there are things mapped as firestations that are not really firestations or are not operated by the zones.

The map is just to easily know which zone is which, not for actually mapping them.
When adding/updating OSM, we’re also not blindly copying from the websites, just using the address to check if we have the same things. So I don’t think there’s a real issue there. We copy some info from individual websites that are meant to inform people all the time without issue. Also, the data on their websites should legally all be open data anyway, so if they were to raise it, it would end up with them needing to change the license on their website.
Ik heb dat wel gevolgd alleszins. Op zich is het doorgaans niet aangewezen om in de naam beschrijvende info te herhalen die al in de andere tags aanwezig is, dus het ontbreken van het woord brandweer lijkt me geen probleem
Tja, het is niet omdat de post in een stad ligt dat ze het daarom per sé noemen naar die stad (ze kunnen het ook noemen naar een deeltje van de regio ofzo). Alleszins zou ik zo dicht mogelijk blijven bij wat ze zelf hanteren - maar het maakt voor ons als NCCN niet veel uit.
Ik heb Rivierenland nagekeken. Het klopt. Ik heb 1 kazerne gewist. Ik heb de belangrijke data toegevoegd. Het telefoonnummer bijvoorbeeld niet. Ik heb ook een paar correcties gedaan.
Ik had graag de names uniform gekregen, maar iemand is nu begonnen met er “brandweer” aan toe te voegen. “Rivierenland” wordt ook meestal gebruikt.
Wat zouden we gebruiken voor de website : home, de posten, of de post zelf ?
Het is ook vervelend dat er nog een paar nodes tussen zitten.

Het telefoonnummer is wel handig om te hebben, maar niet essentieel. Lijkt hier ook te ontbreken, toch voor de indviduele posten.
Voor de website lijkt me het beste de individuele pagina. In de meeste zones hebben ze dat wel niet. De pagina met alle posten lijkt me het handigste als dat ontbreekt.
Ik heb zelf een voorkeur om een polygoon rond het gebied te tekenen dat door de brandweer gebruikt wordt (voorbeeld), maar dat kan niet altijd natuurlijk. Soms is het moeilijk te achterhalen, soms is er geen gedefinieerd gebied, en soms zijn er zelfs meerdere gebruikers van hetzelfde gebied. Dan kan een punt soms de enige oplossing zijn. Op zich geen probleem.
Fouten die ik vaak ben tegengekomen:
zowel amenity als building op een punt of op een outline voor het gebied
In Mechelen waren er twee identieke gebouwen op elkaar, en er lag ook nog een bos over dat gebouw
In Heist-op-den-Berg zegt de brandweer op huisnummer 46 te zitten (en wij hebben dat gevolgd), maar dat is fout, het is huisnummer 46A. Ik meld het ook even aan de zone zelf.
@joost_schouppe de brandweerzone Midwest in West-Vlaanderen is ok. Op hun website vermelden ze idd gemeente Oostrozebeke, maar wel post Westrozebeke. Verwarrend en ook geen buurgemeenten
