Competitors and competition

I like to think competition and having competitors is good for OpenStreetMap-US; how many contributors for instance have come over from frustration with the Big G for instance or other commercial services.

For myself and my motivations behind contributing to OSM, I find OnX to be a good motivator. Too many family and friends pay for OnX- this service offers up cadastral-based ownership data without context or supplemental access restrictions or validated transportation system data, yet people who don’t know about OSM gravitate towards and recommend it. :expressionless: Thus I spend my time mapping parks, nature reserves, county/state/national forests, game reserves, etc. and their associated approved trails and roads to provide a better resource.

Does competition with other map services motivate you? If so, what do you regard as a competitor for OSM as a map service of choice and how can OSM provide an improved service against the competing services?
