I went to Pittsburgh in August. Correct that is unrelated to OpenStreetMap. I live at least 1,200 km from Pittsburgh but have spent much time mapping bus stops and routes since returning home in the Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) network. Many of the bus stops on the PRT 2 and P13 (same route at the moment) inbound/outbound are marked on utility poles. I add each bus stop but wonder if I can add each utility pole and use those to create the bus stops when the bus stop is at a utility pole. If I try to add the bus stop and utility pole, I get the message that the objects are too close each other and need to be moved apart. Does a method exist to do that? I did look but did not find any results relating to this.
In case it matters, I use Safari while logged in to OpenStreetMap to edit and add.
There are many situations where objects with several tags will cohabitate peacefully. Normally, having man_made=utility_pole
and highway=bus_stop
on the same node would work, though renderers will probably not proceed them as you expect. (Each renderer has its own set of rules and it will be rendered as one or the other.)
In general, it is safer to stick to the OFOE rule and keep them as separate nodes:

You are using the iD editor. It issues such a standard warning when users draw two nodes very close to each other. The easiest solution is to move them further apart.

Sharing won’t work for ref=
, important for both. So separate points should be created.
