You shouldn’t type anything right after [/quote], otherwise formatting will not work.
Das habe ich bei noch keiner BBCode-Anwendung erlebt und würde das daher als schweren Fehler bezeichnen.
Ich bin bspw. darauf konditioniert, Direkt nach dem schließenden quote zu schreiben, weil sonst etliche Foren eine überflüssige Zeile reinzaubern … Daher weiß ich, dass es das Problem sonst nirgendwo gibt.

In the old forum the smilies don*t work if you attach them directly to the aforegoing text (without space in between) … once you have noted that you act accordingly: Leave a space of forget about the smilies …
