Are slight_right/slight_left/merge_to_right/merge_to_left exclusive single lane turn:lanes tags?

Asking because that seems to be my logic, a recent observation where a mixed lane turn:lanes=through;right was changed to through;slight_right. Subsequenly QA starting fingering me, who did not make that change. Rolled eyes, but still would want to know.

The road marking is similar to this sign indicating these available forward options.

slight_right is to me a separate lane which eventually flows off.

PS: The topic tags suggested turn_lanes when the actual tag is turn:lanes (on a oneway)

That looks like a through;right sign to me. However, some jurisdictions don’t have a sign for through;slight_right, so mappers might be relying on some context other than signs or markings, such as road geometry.

What’s the exact warning? You may be misunderstanding it, or it’s a false positive.

Well, that’s the question, is it a typical Osmose false-warning or should these be on separate lanes only
the actual lane that does flow away after an initial parallel section. The exact message I don’t remember, hit the red X being a red sore. If you don’t the list gets longer and longer and eventually reaching 100 it stops. Could simulate it on a way off country track to regen the message. Would take 24 hours or longer

I’m picturing a 3 lane I’ve seen in Germany that forks onto a single lane going left and one to the right and the middle lane having markings that you have to choose
switch to the outer left or right or hit the barrier or park right in front of that and pull out the map to see if you have to go left or right
yes we do see these road magicians.

Come to think of it close to me a 2 lane that forks into 2 single ways. To me that’s through;right|left;through where you take position, nothing ‘slight’ very maybe merge
zipping as not a common expression or behavior here, leaving enough space between cars so the person in left lane can switch to right and vice versa
lock jam guaranteed when it’s busy.

Do you have a screenshot or photo you can share? It might be easier to understand what you’re describing.

OK, screenshot of junction 2 as described in my last post. By signs and markings it’s actually no lane change well before the split. There are no arrows on the road, only destinations which were added in past per the blue signs at the actual split tagged as destination:lanes=|. Limbo if this is just through|through until the actual split point. overtaking=no of course, trucks is conditional on left lane, most of the day no. The divider=solid_line I’ve only ever used when it’s a bi-directional way. connectivity tagging I abhor. Routing works fine here for all 3 OSM simulators.

Do remember now the warning on junction 1 was about the turn:lanes not matching the lanes count (3) since the change to slight/merge replacing right/left where before through|through;right|left;through for 3 lanes, the right lane a mixed zone where an on and off motorway_link join the main. One can also just stay on that 3rd lanes and go directly on/off. Need a further dig to get a good shot at right angle. There are destination signs. All three OSM simulators worked fine there in past testing.

At any rate, slight_left/right merge_to_left/right never seen before other than on exclusive lanes, not mixed with others like through. Typically those go off and continue or come on and end.

through|through would be justified if there are through arrows on both lanes at some point, but it seems rather unhelpful in this case. The main purpose of turn:lanes=* and change:lanes=* tagging is to make sure a navigation system can unambiguously tell you which lane to get into in advance.

The convention is to use slight_left and slight_right to indicate an exit lane or a lane approaching a lane split, as in your photo. In this case, the value refers to the road geometry rather than any turn lane indication. It’s an unfortunate exception in the turn:lanes=* tagging scheme, which normally tries to reflect signs or markings rather than road geometry. By contrast, slight_right at a five-way intersection typically also reflects the signs and markings.

Some jurisdictions like California also post standard left or right turn lane signs ahead of exits and lane splits along motorways, so that both right and slight_right would technically be correct. Sometimes the signs and markings substitute the arrows with the word “Exit” or “Freeway” as a special kind of “turn”. Last I checked, mappers here were pretty inconsistent about which value to use in these cases.
