I see that a river and some hiking trails were mapped with an offset of about 5-10 meters.
This seems to be an error from the user who mapped it previously since my GPS trace is aligned with the high quality aerial photo (swisstopo) and with the Strava trace.
Therefore, I’m correcting the map to shift the points.
I’m wondering: does this situation occurs often to you?
What is the best practice in this case, would you look at the user who did the original trace to clarify with him why his mapping was offset?

I would not contact the other mapper for a 5-10m offset. But I would fix the position if my own gps trace was fitting well with Strava’s heatmap, even better if good aerial imagery aligns as well.
Realigning the trail seems a bit nerdy to me (speaking as a nerd myself.)
And yes, this occurs quite often, where I’m home. Especially on paths that were mapped from GPX or from badly aligned aerials. Mind you. also Strava can mislead.
