Abundance of anonymous notes in Winnipeg area

As stated in the title, I would estimate that ~90% of notes in Winnipeg and the surrounding area are anonymous notes that were created in September and October 2024 (Mainly Sep inside the city, Oct all around the city).

They are mostly noting missing street names, I have personally verified a small handful of these myself via survey and added the info, but personally I don’t feel confident taking these all at face value. Both because they clearly made mistakes and had to correct some of their notes and because I have no idea if this data came from survey or just pulling from google maps.

It also makes it harder to find useful notes in the sea of these (in my opinion) useless ones.

My thought would be to just close these by hand as I come across them, but I didn’t want to make that decision unilaterally. I’m curious of ideas and opinions from other mappers, hence this post.

Thanks!

Personally I don’t have a problem anymore with notes staying open for a long time until someone can pass by them and verify (even if it takes 10 years), as long as they are actionable. But I am also not going to be opposed if someone does close notes which are evidently mass-created.

For such things I would defer to people actually processing notes in that area.

Are there people processing notes (not just mass closing them as some weird inbox zero goal)?
Are they irritated by pile of mass-created notes? And they want them gone: lets close all of them.

Are there people processing notes and going through this pile and would prefer them to not be mass closed? Lets follow this.

If you are very lucky and have so many people processing notes (not only creating them) that they disagree it gets more interesting.

especially as they may be mass copied from say Google Maps

So far I have been the only one to process some of these via surveying, otherwise from what I can tell these have been left entirely untouched since creation. I also don’t really see anyone else processing notes in the Winnipeg area besides myself at the moment, although I know there is a few other active mappers.

But yes, I would like to know if someone already has a plan for these, or would prefer them to stay open.
