There are places that are appearing on the map as Residential Areas which now are Abandoned and demolished but still recognizable as a physical presents.
Is there a tag to describe their status?
It’s possible to use the disused prefix, for example: disused:man_made=water_tap to mark a broken water tap.
I have never used it on a residential area though. I wonder if the community has better suggestions for that use case.

Looks like abandoned:landuse=farmland is the answer.
At some point there were many plots tagged as ‘fallow’, farming lands there were ‘abandoned’ for multiple years. Its tag usage went entirely flat after an innitial flurry in Italy. Seeing quite a few orchards that appear dormant and then suddenly the plough or the tractor with rotary cutter comes out. The owner may have died and no immediate succession to continue the farm. In short, ‘abandoned’ is a tall word.

I would not even use “abandoned”. Some farmland have seasonal usage.
We would not use “abandoned” on a wheat field after the wheat was harvested, right!?
The fenced area looks as if it contained farm animals not long ago. Perhaps even earlier that day, before they were taken to graze elsewhere. Similarly, the sheds do not seem to be in a significantly degraded state.

In fact, from all the members of Relation: Mu'arrajat Centre (10550091) | OpenStreetMap, this one at least has some traces of building in the satellite image.
Many other members have no trace of what might be considered a residential area. For example:
It seems to me that there was some over-enthusiasm by that user as part of a HOTOSM project…
I don’t want to get into the issues of geo political that are nothing to do with maps. The locations i have seen there are abandoned and will not be changing to anything as they are all ruins.
For now i placed there on the description the word "abandoned.
If you belive i should change it to something else please let me know.
As mentioned earlier, The abandoned lifecycle prefix is the better mapping, if you know it’s abandoned.
