Hello,
I am doing some of my first edits. I added some pedestrian crosswalks at
https://www.openstreetmap.org/edit?way=167708769#map=22/38.51066/-121.43609
but I got warnings of “disconnected streets”.
Why do I get these, am I adding these incorrectly, or should I add something more?
Do the crosswalks look OK?
Regards
Phil
Hi, that’s because you just mapped them as areas instead of placing a node on the highway.
You should delete these areas and do it as recommended in https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway%3Dcrossing
Anyway, thanks for figuring out these warning actually mean something and asking for help. If all inexperienced mappers did that, we would have much less stuff to clean up

Hi RicoElectrico,
Thank you for the advice. I deleted the areas and added a node on the way for pedestrian crossing. No warnings
See https://www.openstreetmap.org/edit#map=20/38.51068/-121.43581
However, by not using an area, there is no geometry data captured on the map. Is there a way to associate a polygon with the pedestrian crossing? If so is there some way to have it rendered on the map?
Regards
Phil
Some map styles do render highway=crossing; the “cycle map” layer on osm.org is one: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=18/53.10095/-1.33109&layers=C
It takes a little longer to update than some other styles though so your examples aren’t showing yet, but they will.
