<!-trying to find out where the footprint layer of the openstreet map comes from/who updates it. we have had a mall demolished so I removed the points for the building but the footprint remains (see west dundee, il spring hill mall). I could not find a way to update the footprints. also, what are your thoughts on adding street addresses to the background layer?

It comes from map data.
It seems that Browser cache - OpenStreetMap Wiki page will be helpful for you.
The OpenStreetMap database doesn’t have separate “layers”. Many street addresses hace already been mapped in the area to the east of the former mall - you can see the house numbers here:
I still see it in openstreetmap.org. does it take some time to change after an edit?
It has changed for me, both outside the editor (as posted by @PHerison ) and as a background layer within the editor (which you are looking at). So it looks like you are seeing a cached version as the first answer suggested.
It usually takes only one or two minutes to update. You can press ctrl.+shift+r to reload the map. That should make it disappear.
How do I get arcgis online to get the update?
AFAIK Arcgis is an esri product. So if anything you’ve got to ask them.
No idea, but looking for info how to flush caches of downloaded background tiles may be fruitful.
I found a webmap in agol at https://openstreetmap.maps.arcgis.com that has the updated data so after I make changes on the site, make an updated version for OpenGov EAM (OMS) that uses a webmap as a background. Thanks for all the suggestions!
