Whatever you do, do not copy cadastral parcel boundaries into OSM. If you can see a fence between two parcels - or if you know the area well enough to be able to say that there will definitely be a fence - you can draw one, just don’t abuse fences to get neat black parcel boundary markers on the map.
(If it were me I’d continue the same “garden” landuse across multiple parcels even if occasionally intersected by a fence; there’s no need to have different object IDs for each parcel if they all touch and have the same tags.)
PS is it possible that by “they” you mean “myself, a year ago”?
