Where does Mapbox obtain its building data?

In a few apps/programs (such as NextDoor) who implement Mapbox, I’ve noticed they use OSM building outlines where they exist, but fill in any gaps with other data.

Is this from their own edits or from another source?

If Mapbox are creating their own building outlines, is there a reason it isn’t/can’t be added to OSM?

This comparable example is of new housing complex still under construction.

AFAIK they are using the Microsoft Building Footprints, as they have announced here.
