What version of JOSM did you get from the Microsoft Store?

Is there anyone using the Microsoft Store version of JOSM?
For those who are using it, what version do you have?
In my setup, I installed it on two different computers at different times (one of the computers was installed this month), but the same old version, 19277, is what is available.

Note: The reason other methods cannot be used is that the user is a regular user without administrative privileges.

When you install JOSM from the Microsoft Store, you get a hopelessly outdated version. The same thing happens in most Linux distributions (except Arch, by the way).

The simple solution is to download the josm-tested.jar file into a user-accessible folder, such as C:\Users\<USER>\Desktop , and run it from there.

JOSM folks are aware of that. This ticket is 3 years old: https://josm.openstreetmap.de/ticket/22452

And you can put it on a USB-stick, so that you can update it at home.

I got 19277 when installing it from the MS Store as the listing doesn’t specify the version number anywhere. My local copy of JOSM (last actively used in December) is 19439.

But really, most features of JOSM will work fine on the -relatively- ancient version available on the MS Store.

Sure, but if you have an issue, if you need some plugins, you’ll get no support.

I would say you will get no plugin. If the current version of a plugin requires a newer version of JOSM, such plugin will not work.

Josm does not require administrative privileges, it is just a java file you can copy anywhere you like

Thank you for the information.
I’ll describe the results of trying several things:
・Results of trying to run josm-tested.jar
One computer didn’t have a Java runtime environment installed at all. The computer that did have one displayed an error related to its version being outdated.
Regardless of the computer, obtaining the latest Java runtime environment would likely require administrator privileges.
For now, I’m continuing to use version 19277 while considering other approaches.

This is interesting—isn’t distribution via the Microsoft Store supposed to be official?
However, the app I have was free.

Ah, I see.
So the app that previously cost $4.69 was unofficial,
while the one currently distributed for free is official, right?

You can install PortableApps.com (I guess) and then install a OpenJDK Java runtime without needing administrative privileges (another guess). Try at home, installing on a USB-stick, and you’ll see if it can be a solution.

You can install it from the Microsoft Store and then replace the file at:

C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\JOSM\app\josm-custom.jar

with the josm-tested.jar.

Remember to keep the name as “josm-custom”, and I do this after each update.
