What’s one feature you'd love to see or improved in the OpenStreetMap?

Hi. I woul like to see and map the precise forms of tactile_paving=yes tag based on their functions (examples of different kind of tactile paving in cz language are here: HMATNÉ ÚPRAVY PRO NEVIDOMÉ).

It’s not formarly proposed, but there is a tactile_paving:type that’s used by some mappers. Maybe that’s something to look into.

If I understand you correctly, this example here: OpenStreetMap Larger Text Example might be of some help for you in being able to read the map. This is still done with raster tiles, not vector tiles. @SomeoneElse already posted a nice vector tile example.

That’s great, many thanks!

I will leave this cross-reference about improving the history of changes to elements in the data model here for greater visibility.

I’d like to see a combination of:

  1. virtual ways (cycleway=virtual) that are not rendered on the map
  2. an exception for the “One feature, one OSM element” rule, to create virtual ways that route shortest over asphalt that is also in use for routing cars.

Current One feature, one OSM element creates preferential treatment for cars at large (> 30 meters diameter) junctions with parallel cycleroads. When a piece of asphalt is in use for car routing, adding a 7 meter shorter virtual (cycle)way will be reverted. When the asphalt is not in use for car routing, then it seems possible to create a virtual shortest route without being reverted.

Note: it’s not only that the real distance over the “virtual” route is shorter, also the turning angles reduce from 2 times 90 degrees within 10 meters to 2 times 25º

A couple of long standing annoyances of OSM.

a) Have a map render option exactly the same as OSMCarto but in English.
I have been wanted this forever and I do think it would be a highly used map render. Obviously the default should be as now but having an English version so I can see where name of countries, cities, etc are at a glance would be most useful.

b) bring back the “hide large changesets” tickbox for the history changesets.
It’s so I don’t see loads of very likely irrelevant changesets and I can easily see a better representation of the recent activity in a local area.
Easier to find newly active mappers in your area which is most helpful to grow a local community.

No idea why this option disappeared a shrug decade ago but if any old timers know please share,

Not exactly what you asked but did you see the new Maptiler OMT vector layer?

better-osm-org has it if I remember well.

oh I’m sure there are many solutions out there. I meant having them natively on openstreetmap.org

The new OMT layer at osm.org is a vector representation of osm-carto, if you switch your language settings in the osm.org website settings to English, this layer will present the name:en English labels that are available in OSM data:

make a second view for the left callout (make it wider so there is more space for history browsing and object details). Maybe also add links to services with graphical changeset modifications and object history views, or extend the core functionality for this (e.g. diffs for tag modifications). One can already have these from third parties, but they may be hard to find and actually seem like core functionality.
