A new tool called “mapNG” has introduced me to OSM and it seems really cool so far, I’ve been mapping out my home town as it is quite poorly mapped with only the major buildings marked out. I have uploaded probably around over 100 houses in an hour and i have 150 that i cannot upload because of the “rate limit”, how big is this limit and how long do i have to wait to upload the houses i already have mapped?
Welcome to OpenStreetMap!
New accounts are limited in the amount of data they can upload to OSM all at once. This was sadly neccecary due to people repeatedly creating new accounts to vandalise the map.
The initial rate limit is 1000 map changes per hour. This limit quickly increases until it caps at 100k map changes per hour. Right now, I would advice you to upload smaller changesets more frequently. After a few days, you’re unlikely to hit the rate limit with casual mapping activities.
Thanks for your quick reply and advice, I can definitely understand the reason for the limits because unfortunately most open community projects definitely do suffer from griefing/vandalism.
Could you provide a link to where you got this from or where it is running? Thanks.
Come on, if we have to descend to “let me google that for you” here, we must have gone astray somewhere.
Advocating Google on an OSM forum? That’s like advocating BMWs on a cycling forum.
There is no letmeduckduckgothisforyou.com
Anyway, same results: "mapng" at DuckDuckGo, same on brave: "mapng" - Brave Search, ecosia: https://www.ecosia.org/search?q="mapng" and so on ![]()
(but actually letmeduckduckgothisforyou.com is free to buy, someone could AI vibe code something
)
You do of course know this, but Google doesn’t return the same results for everyone. The results I get when I google “coffee shop” are not the same ones you will get. The results you get when you google “mapng” are not necessarily the same ones anyone else will get. (Admittedly in my case the suggested coffee shops are 120 miles east of where I actually live because Google’s IP geolocation is shockingly bad - either that, or it thinks I can cycle a lot faster than I actually do - but hey.)
goduckyourself.com would be better ![]()
Its just a web based service that uses osm maps with some sort of algorithm to convert them into very rudimentary beamNG.Drive maps, its quite new so there isn’t much info about it yet
This is perfect @Richard ![]()
