What is the proper way to tag Brand Branches/Stores

As a user and mapper I have also been trying to use the OSM maps in several android apps for navigation. The biggest issue I am running into is navigating to various Branches/Stores under some of the common brand names here: Publix, Walgreens, Whole Foods, CVS, Starbucks, etc… When I do a search in those apps the results all show up under the brand name, which makes it really hard to see if its the right store if they are somewhat similar distance away from me. Also the distance and/or town becomes the only way I could tell them apart (which makes it more complicated when driving)

Most of these branches/stores are a few miles away from each one and are usually located in a shopping center/plaza. Most of these are tagged similarly.

For example:
name=Publix
brand=Publix
brand:wikidata=Q672170
branch=Westwinds of Boca
ref=421
shop=supermarket

After reviewing: Key:brand - OpenStreetMap Wiki it seems that I should update the name tag to match the local/area to expand and provide more context to “Publix” name to be able to tell these apart. Then again looking at ID Editor it seems that it locks the Name tag?

  1. Should I update Name tag to match the longer version of the Store Name (there’s quite a few stores around my area, so this would impact possibly quite a few nodes).
  2. As far as website information and to hopefully clear up my understanding. Can I use the website tag for this specific store/location and have a separate brand:website tag for the main branch/corp website?

Thank you,

  1. No. You should ask the apps to improve this.
  2. Yes, this is how website= is supposed to be used for, the page of the individual branches. brand:website= is not needed when you have that website= available.
