Currently I’m looking towards reviving the draft for the Washington highway tagging guidelines, originally made by Compdude about five years ago. While there’s already guidelines there for trunk routing which largely seems adequate, I’d like to have some help writing guidelines for lower-classification roads, as this isn’t something I have a whole lot of experience with and mostly just have a bunch of raw ideas.
Thanks for picking that up @Ielenia! I encourage you to read through a few of the other state level guidelines to get a sense of how others have tackled this. While the overall approach of “which roads connect the next smaller set of communities” still applies, there are often some shortcuts to this determination based on state classification schemes that can help determine the relative importance of parallel routes.
