Dear all,
Following the RFC announcement last month, the voting is now open on the power circuits routing proposal.
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposal:Power_circuits_routing
In a nutshell, here are the main proposed changes:
- Unify tagging practices regarding power circuits relations (currently at least two different practices exist)
- Make a better distinction between power routes and transportation routes (encourage removal of route=power in favour of type=power)
- Discourage unnecessary redundancy for frequency=* and wires=* on physical lines versus relations
- Introduce optional keys for physical properties
Power routes mapping is not mandatory and this proposal intends to bring a robust framework useful for anyone who wants to get involved in and ease the maintenance of existing data.
It’s an opportunity to consolidate different approaches in tagging.
It reinforces OSM relevancy in power modeling, for scientific research and low and medium income countries ability to make decision on their own.
Nothing is perfect, depending on the outcome we may improve what is proposed and discuss it again.
This proposal is made on behalf of Oh my grid initiative. The team members agree on not over support the proposal during voting, only two contributors involved in writing are expected to place a vote.
Feel free to give your own opinion about that proposal at the end of the page.
Best regards
