Vodafone, TIM, Windtre and Iliad - shop=mobile_phone to shop=telecommunication

Hi there,

On the NSI, Italian telecom operator shops (Vodafone, TIM, Windtre and Iliad) are currently tagged as shop=mobile_phone. However, these shops mainly focus on services such as Internet contracts, IPTV, streaming services, SIM cards, and mobile/Internet plans. While they do sell some phones, that’s minimal compared to their main purpose.

This is different from a shop=mobile_phone, and matches the description of shop=telecommunication perfectly.

Does the Italian community agree that I update Vodafone, TIM, Windtre and Iliad shops from shop=mobile_phone to shop=telecommunication on the NSI, which can then be updated on OSM?

Yes, I agree.

By the way, some of these and other Italian telecommunication companies (like WindTre and Fastweb, but also Poste Italiane, the national postal service) are now selling also insurance , home energy supply contracts and other connected devices, but I’m not sure if and how to represent it in OSM (maybe insurance=yes?)

I agree, since that’s a completely different tag you could have edited those without asking in my opinion.

I wouldn’t tag them automatically using NSI, since I don’t think that in every WindTre point you can activate an insurance policy (I think it depends on their franchise status).

I agree too.

By the way, another Italian telecommunications store that could be added to NSI is Fastweb (Fastweb - Wikidata, https://www.fastweb.it/).

I added Fastweb to my draft PR. Thanks.

P.S: it seems Fastweb and Vodafone are in the process of merging after Swisscom’s acquisition. They will become Fastweb + Vodafone. Both stores are unchanged for now, and probably not for a few months (or years). I’ll update them accordingly when the stores actually rebrand.
