Using of Openstreetmap in SportTracks 3

For several years I use the software Sporttracks 3 to log my running and biking. This software is not supported anymore since several years but I like it and I do not want to chance to the webversion. I already paid for a lifetime licence;=)

This software uses the map of openstreetmap:

opensteetmap.org (cycle map)

It uses other versions like (osmarenderer), (HikeandBIke) or (Mapnik) but these maps are not displayed since many month.

Now the (Cycle Map) shows the text “Api Key required”. And here are my questions:

How can I get this key?
Even if I have the key, I have no possibility to include a key in this old and not more supported software.

Do you have an idea oder workaround for me? This would be really nice;=)

Sporttracks is the reason I got started with OSM many years ago. I’m afraid it has very likely fallen afoul of ever stricter requirements from the OSM side to prevent misuse.

I’ve just started up my copy of 3.1 and will report in a sec.

A bit later :-).

There’s no straightforward solution as the relevant plugin has no way to configure it (these were written in C# so not anything esoteric, but that doesn’t help without the source).

The hackish workaround that might work is to point the app at a proxy (see the “Internet” settings) and rewrite both headers and url there. This naturally depends on the OSM plugin actually respecting the proxy setting, but I would think it is worth a try. There seems to be a version of nginx for windows that probably could do the job.

Hello Simon,

I was so angry, when the programmer crippled the software to force everyone to use the online version for a monthly fee. Some programmers managed it to save the latest version for the future. I used Sportrackss since 2006 and I have recorded more than 7500 activities.

It would be great, if I can manage to use the maps of OSM in the future;=)

I would note that there are OSS alternatives these days, for example https://www.goldencheetah.org/ (yes exporting and then importing 7’500 activities is going to be painful). In any case I would suggest trying the proxy workaround.

I recommend switching to the Java based open source MyTourbook. This is what I did a long time ago when they turned the Sporttracks 2 project into payed software. MyTourbook offers an import option for Sporttracks 3. It is very powerful, but it needs a bit of learning because of the many graphical options it offers. It is under GPLv2 license and still actively developed.
