Use of `centralkey=crt_watermate` for facilities on British canals

There are currently 200 features in OpenStreetMap tagged centralkey=crt_watermate. This makes it the third most common centralkey in the world and significantly more common than the tagging for RADAR keys on disabled toilets =nks. It seems to be a departure from the original intent of a tag to record key schemes for accessible toilets etc. but otherwise seems to fit the description quite well. [1]

It was not documented until I added it to the wiki page for centralkey a couple of days ago. So far it appears on objects last edited by 18 different users. The objects still at version 1 have 7 different creators.

Are we all broadly fine with this tag? I’m thinking of including it in a thing I’m messing with.

  1. There are also 13 cases of centralkey=standard_windlass, which I tend to think is a step too far as that’s more a tool than a key and might cause issues if there are situations where you require both. ↩︎
