I am planning to close the Poll on this forum topic this upcoming Sunday (03/08/2026) and then we can work on the details of implementing the necessary changes afterwards. So if you want to contribute to that or to chime in and reply to the forum do so by then. I feel that I have left it open long enough. Obviously if anyone feels I haven’t left it open long enough I am open to extending how I long I keep it open.

Making an argument that Mapnik as featured by default on the home page is something only you and I remember is a real choice.
I was referring to MapQuest Open, which at least did something useful with the way ref prefix. On the other hand, if you mean OSM Carto, why do you care whether it shows “SR” or “FL” on the route badges? I thought you wanted it to show nothing (by eliminating the way ref in favor of the route relation).
No, I want it to actually use the modern, relation-based tagging to render that.
