Unable to upload GPX tracks from OsmAnd (iPhone) to OpenStreetMap – need help mapping village roads

Hello everyone,

I am contributing to OpenStreetMap by recording roads in remote and village areas where roads are not clearly visible due to dense forest cover.

I record my drives using the OsmAnd app on my iPhone. However, I am facing the following issues:

  1. I record my trip in OsmAnd and try to upload the GPX track directly from my mobile to OpenStreetMap, but the upload does not work.

  2. I also tried exporting the GPX file from my iPhone, transferring it to my computer, and uploading it to OpenStreetMap from there — but that also fails.

  3. Because of this, I am unable to use my recorded tracks to draw missing roads on the map.

What I want to do:

  • Record village/forest roads while driving

  • Upload the GPX track to OpenStreetMap

  • Use that track as a reference to manually draw roads that are currently missing or invisible in satellite imagery

Could someone please guide me on:

  • The correct way to export GPX tracks from OsmAnd on iPhone

  • How to successfully upload GPX tracks to OpenStreetMap

  • Whether there are any common mistakes or settings I should check

Any step-by-step guidance or best practices would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help and for maintaining such an amazing project.

Some basic questions:

  • I’m assuming you have already logged-in to OSM account on OSMAnd app. If not can you do that first.
  • How’re you “uploading” it? Can you specify steps to reproduce issue.
  • Do you see a error screen or something. If yes, please share screenshot.

Otherwise, you can also use OpenStreetMap to upload GPX files directly.
