Hi I am trying to show the Council Ward Boundaries in my local area of the UK. Is there any way I can show these on the map please?
Ward boundaries generally won’t be included in OSM. But you may be able to obtain them as open data from OS Boundary Line. WHat do do, depends a bit on what you want to “show them on a map” for. Is it just for your own personal use, or do you want to set up a public website with a map that includes ward boundaries?
They’re also available from ONS, with the latest release in May 2025 ONS Open Geography Portal - Ward Boundaries
I’m curious: why is this?
My guess is that Ordnance Survey licensing doesn’t allow importing it, and it’s not practical to do manually given that they change periodically. Would that be correct?
Tried the wiki (eg: Local councils in the United Kingdom - OpenStreetMap Wiki) but I’m not finding a clear answer.
Slightly off topic:
Is there a way to download their free datasets without signing up for an OS account?
I’d rather not read through a load of bumf to try to figure out which buttons to press to avoid a subscription just to get a couple of files worth of free data.
