Hi, recently I had a hiking event in ShenZhen, China, where I find out that maps.me lacks a track for existing hiking road, I recorded my activity on that road as kmz file in maps.me and converted to gpx file and upload it here, it always fail, what is the cause?
Hi Vatten, welcome to our forum.
When you say you uploaded the gpx file here I understand that you uploaded it at
https://www.openstreetmap.org/traces/new
correct? Uploading a gpx file will not automatically create a track or road. What you have to do is to open the built in editor, upload your gpx by drag and drop and then draw the track or road manually in the correct position. For more details see
Hi, I do the upload here in OpenStreetMap , but I have done it several times, always end up with nothing, I get an email that told me the upload is failed: (GPX import failure), 0 points parsed ok. Do they all htave lat,Ing,alt, timestap?
I converted a KMZ file from maps.me app to GPX file and it showed right trace in converter
I did the line edit and saved it as your guide, but it still shows nothing on the map, how long would it take to update?
Try to refresh your browsers cache and reload the area your are looking at in the map (usually the keys ctrl + F5 should do). If the track still does not show up, try again tomorrow, it may take some time when the server is very busy.
A GPX file can contain waypoints (individual points of interest), routes (suggested directions of travel), and tracks (the path actually traveled). The OSM website only imports tracks, ignoring any routes or waypoints in the file. If the converter you’re using turns the KML file into a route or a collection of waypoints, importing won’t work.
What error did you get when you tried to do that?
I’m guessing that it might have been something like “no timestamps in file”, in which case exporting it with timestamps (if not possible from whatever you are using, use something else) and then converting it in a way to preserve them?
Edit: Yes, it was “no timestamps” - the OP above said “I get an email that told me the upload is failed: (GPX import failure), 0 points parsed ok. Do they all htave lat,Ing,alt, timestap?”, and the screenshot clearly has no timestamps in it.
There are no timestamps in that file. Have a look at one of these (download and edit the file and scroll down to where it says “trkpt” to see what the format is supposed to be).
Still does not show up after my manually added route, been 2 days
Can you see the track you mapped when you open the editor? If not, you did not upload it to the database. If yes, maybe you can provide a link so that we can check?
Probably your GPX file lacks timestamps: OSM doesn’t like that. I use this app http://www.gpstrackeditor.com to load GPX files: it doesn’t like files without timestamps either, but offers to add them for you automatically. If you then save it, you can upload the file to OSM without problems.
I did as you recommended, drag the gpx file onto the editor and draw the line along the track, and then save, then nothing happens after two days
If you are this OSM user, then you haven’t saved anything. Clearly you’re finding it difficult to understand what software is telling you and what other people are saying, but:
Please do link to the area where you are adding your track. If you can add a screenshot of you trying to save it, please do that.
Also, the round
below this post is a “translate” button.
Now I know what has gone wrong, the track is not finalized if I do not click the last point twice. Saving it before the track is finalized updates nothing. Now the track is visible
well done. I can see it, too.
Now to the fine tuning: The name=* should only include what is singposted. If there are no signs, think about using different ways of “naming” it. See Names
The southern end of the way isn’t connected to any other way. That’s bad for routing so please review that. If there is no connection in reality, keep it that way.
The access tags should only reflect what is legally the case. Please do not set any tags based on what you think is possible.
Don’t hesitate to ask any more questions if there is something unclear
The track end up in a local plaza, beside a basketball court, not any other road, how to specify it?
I was using maps.me app when I walked on this track, and before it works very well in many other countries. But to my surprise, after a long downloading of the GuangDong province map in China, there was no track on this part of the road (although there is a local map guide showĂŻng that track on a board nearby the cross), so I think it will be convenient to record my activity and update the map. However, maps.me does not provide such function and their kmz format file does not upload in your service either, is there anyway this process can be improved and automated?
