Transferring TYP files to a Garmin GPS

Well, here it is: http://www.cferrero.net/maps/maps_index.html

Let me know any questions/clarifications so I can improve it or add to the FAQ.

Hi
Thanks for your website. Very clear but I still have a couple of Questions:

I’ve got your spreadsheet for the POI’s but is there an equivalent for list of lines with their line styles & polygons with their colour/pattern swatches?

The link to the Type editor doesn’t work:

http://ati.land.cz/gps/typdecomp/editor.cgi

Has it moved or is it down at the moment?

I’ve recently upgraded from GPSmap 60c to an Oregon 300 &, rather irritatingly, the contour .img file I use now displays with much heavier brown lines than on the old unit.
I would like to reduce the thickness, change it’s colour to a grey & make them semi opaque. Is it possible to do all those things by amending a Style/Type file?

Hope you can help cheers
Dave F.

Link is correct, but the server seems to be down right now.

Update: Now it is working again.

The link http://ati.land.cz/gps/typdecomp/ is also usefull.

Chris

Have a look at the polygons sheet in the same spreadsheet for a description of those up to 0x53. Alternatively, look at http://www.cferrero.net/maps/garmin_defaults.html where I’ve put some images. There are some interesting hatched polygons up there in the 0x4c+ range.

I intend to add polylines at some point and will also see if I can add extended types too.

This is exactly what you can use a TYP file for. The relevant line types are 0x20, 0x21 and 0x22

I’ve used mapsettoolkit to upload types, although I’m sure there are simpler ways. Be aware of the need to include styles as well when uploading imgs to your Garmin . The default style shows a limited variety of POIs .
There is a Mapnik type & style created by a Frenchman ideal for checking the accuracy of OSM maps. It’s great to see Mapnik woods, parks buildings etc on one’s garmin.
If you need more info let me know

Here is a website with typ file tutorial and two usefull typ files.

Is there similar software out there that I can download for a MacBook? Most of the stuff mentioned in these guys sites will only work on Windows software.
:frowning:

You can use online editor for TYP files:
