The verification system is not 100% perfect yet. I am working on getting the whole sections of at least majority of the routes on the map get the correct OSM link.
I think the issue you pointed out is related to how the lines are created on the map. I will see if I can fix that problem, especially for Kilkenny. This one should be linked correctly
An another similar problem which I noticed is AVE Madrid - Granada route on the map. This one is not linked correctly yet, so it is probably the reason. This is a trap which I have been going to, where it says that it is verified, but only a section which is only 95% relevant for the specific route.
Killarney might be a bit more difficult, but I want to look at that as well.
Unfortunately Barcelona to Malaga still seems to be causing problems, some of which I thought had been fixed.
It is shown following conventional lines at several points between Barcelona and Zaragoza, including a coastal section. The card claims to have checked against OGV 6420 - I can’t find this train. Perhaps IRY 6020?
It is also shown entering Madrid, which is correct if it refers to the IRYO service which does call at Atocha. But the card implies it refers to a service that avoids Madrid, which I think currently applies to one Renfe AVE daily.
Also Madrid to Granada has grown a spur near Toledo.
It feels like the current system is too fragile and prone to fixing things that don’t need fixing.
What happened with Barcelona - Malaga was that I found two OSM relations, but for two different routes than the whole route (Perhaps Barcelona - Madrid and Madrid - Malaga). So it showed correctly besides in Madrid. The same problem applied for different routes such as Wien - Zurich or Munchen - Verona, where it showed wrongly for Innsbruck.
I have been working on dealing with that, so the general sweep removed the “fixed” tracing. I have not managed to fix everything yet. For example I managed to get the correct linking for Munchen - Verona, but not Wien - Zurich.
For Madrid to Granada, the cause of the spur near Toledo is that it is OSM linked wrongly so it is linked from Madrid to Toledo, not Madrid to Granada.
I have been taking a small break, but tomorrow I think that I am going to continue on working with that.
At the moment I have only used ÖBB Scotty to verify that the passenger service exist, but not for showing correct route. I am not sure why it shows OGV 6420, because it shows IRY 6020 on the website. If I can somehow use ÖBB Scotty for verifying that the route is traced properly, then it might be a game changer (Perhaps I will feed Claude screenshots from ÖBB Scotty for routes such as Malaga - Barcelona).
The current system is faulty although much better than having nothing. However, I think the correct approach is to both expand the system and improve it, because then I can easily add more routes without creating new problems. At the same time, the verification needs to be cleaned since there are bugs within it.
Again, thanks for taking your time to comment here. It really helps me and I appreciate it.
Something still looks a little odd on Madrid to Murcia. It appears to overshoot the bifurcation in the direction of Alicante, then take a sharp turn east on something that isn’t a track at all as far a I can tell:
Incidentally, is there any possibility of a choice of background maps? I understand why you would want a very sparse map as the default. But for things like this, the absence of detail it makes it hard to see where exactly it is going wrong.
Thanks a lot for making me me add unused OSM lines to the map. I have thought about that before, but I did not act on it before you mentioned it because I was afraid of clogging the map. Therefore, I created a filter where OSM lines gets shown or hidden.
Now I just feel stupid since it should have been on the website a long time ago. Right now there are OSM routes with links on the map, but I assume that it would be better to add all OSM rail routes even without links.
OSM has a specific route for AVE Madrid - Murcia so I will see how I can add that to the map later. It seems that it used AVE Madrid - Alicante and then the old route from Alicante to Murcia to draw the route, so that it is why the route seemed wrong. Thanks for noticing that!
Some AVE services to Murcia really do call at Alicante and partly double back on themselves, whereas others go straight to Murcia. So probably one of the easiest routes to get mixed up.
You will be glad to hear I have been unable to find any errors in Spain today!
I do have a route suggestion. Yesterday I happened to read a blogger’s “live” account of a trip on the Alvia from Vigo to Barcelona. Given that (as I mentioned earlier) the direct route that used to run from Cadiz to Barcelona no longer does so (at least for the moment), I believe Vigo to Barcelona is Spain’s longest domestic route.
If you could draw that, it would bring in several long stretches of currently undrawn tracks in northern Spain in one go.
It is in Scotty as A 621 and has a relation in OSM (although it now departs from Vigo Urzaiz, not Vigo Guixar)
I am glad to hear that although there is probably something which will appear later to be wrong.
I am working on adding new routes around the world through those with OSM relations since OSM lines are already added to the map. I just have to get the story for each of them and making them verified.
Thanks for the suggestion and the details for Barcelona - Vigo. It should be possible to add this route on the map.
I have not decided yet how I should solve “Some AVE services to Murcia really do call at Alicante and partly double back on themselves, whereas others go straight to Murcia. So probably one of the easiest routes to get mixed up.”, because I can imagen that there are more similar situations such as this one and I do not want to clog the map too much.
Nice to see Malaga to Granada on the map! One small point: like all Avant services it’s a high speed route, not a classic or mixed route. Admittedly the average speed is not very impressive…
Also 2 of the gallery photos are of places a long way from this line. And the direct route started in 2022, not 2019.
The Barcelona to Malaga route is still a bit confusing as it is drawn via Madrid Atocha but I think is meant to represent the route that avoids Madrid. AVE 03992 has no stops between Zaragoza and Ciudad Real.
I guess Malaga to Granada is a high speed line (Some sections at least). I took it in December last year from Granada to Malaga. If I am correct it seems that they are constructing a new high speed line all the way to Granada.
I personally would consider Flytoget Drammen - Gardemoen a high speed line although internationally it would not be considered at all.
I hope that I managed to fix the gallery photos. This one I cannot promise you anything.
The Barcelona to Malaga route is representing more that there is a possibility to take a direct train all the way from Barcelona to Malaga.
