"traffic mirrors" in Bangladesh

I’ve found a number of nodes tagged with “highway=traffic_mirror” and “direction=text” in Bangladesh. Initially this confused me completely. Meanwhile, I think that these nodes are intended to map a traffic sign that provides the name of a junction.

Is it ok if I change the tagging of such nodes as follows:

  • The node is tagged with “traffic_sign=street_name” and “name=text”, and
  • The junction node next to the sign is tagged with “junction=yes” and “name=text”?

An example can be found in this changeset: Changeset: 189101742 | OpenStreetMap

Have you considered that it might be an actual mirror? They are sometimes used to see around corners etc.
Regardless, I would suggest that until you know, you don’t continue changing them.

Sorry, I should have elaborated what confused me: I couldn’t find a trace of a traffic mirror in pictures of the places that I reviewed. Also, most of the nodes are placed in a place that would not be useful for a mirror. (In the case of a T junction, traffic mirrors are typically placed above the T and not inside a “corner” of the T.)

I found that many of the “mirror” nodes have a name (“direction”) that includes “Mor” or “More” which according to my research is the typical name of a junction in Bangladesh.

This overpass query should provide you with all relevant “traffic mirror” nodes in Bangladesh: overpass turbo

To me, none of them looks like an actual traffic mirror.

My impression is that mappers tried to tag the name of a junction.

It seems that the OSM community in Bangladesh is not very active. I already left some notes and fixmes and now this post, but no answer from a local?
