Hi All,
In September, TomTom has a new MapRoulette challenge to share: United States - Missing Railway Level Crossings with 667 tasks.
This challenge focuses on locations where a road and railway intersect at the same level, but the corresponding railway crossing node may be missing. See the example below.
The challenge includes locations related to both rail and tram infrastructure. Some tasks may already have been fixed, some may be false positives, and others may turn out to be bridges, tunnels, or other situations that do not require a railway crossing tag but instead need layer updates.
A few things to watch for:
- Confirm that the road and railway actually cross at the same level.
- Do not add crossing tags where the road or railway passes over or under the other.
- In some cases, an existing crossing node may simply be misplaced and only needs to be moved rather than recreated.
- Tram crossings can be especially nuanced. If you encounter situations involving embedded tram tracks or other edge cases where tagging conventions are unclear, please feel free to raise questions in this thread.
- If you encounter a false positive, feel free to mark the task as Already Fixed or Not an Issue.
Feedback is always welcome. If you notice recurring false positives, unusual railway or tram situations, or anything else that could improve the challenge, please let me know here.
Thanks for taking a look.
David
