The secret addresses of Alpine, New Jersey

Just the other day (well actually today (this morning, in fact)) I heard about the secret addresses of Alpine, New Jersey

https://www.nytimes.com/1993/10/04/nyregion/alpine-journal-where-house-numbers-are-secret-and-at-issue.html

Isn’t that special?

Nice article. Thanks for that.

It wouldn’t really matter if all houses had names, but at least on OSM, we don’t have that: Way: 626035886 | OpenStreetMap (1 of several I checked).

Just curious, which localities in OSM have the highest parts of house names?

The linked NY Times article is from 1993. I wonder how that has changed in the last three decades.

In fact there are more NYT articles about it too.

Anyway let’s say there is an import of open data address nodes, but a certain homeowner decided to hide their address plate under their pillow.

According to Ground Truth, should their node be removed from OpenStreetMap?

Who knows, maybe one day there will be genuine incorporated cities that remove all their city limit signs…
