The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) Map

Hello OpenStreetMap Community Help.

I am one of the UK home population,
and I have learned about, and I care about,
The International Food Security Phase Classification,
The IPC, and their world hunger map,
which is very sad, here:
https://www.ipcinfo.org/

In the footer of the map,
it says, this map is by MapBox and OpenStreetMap.

What I wanted to ask you please is,
I would like a printable copy of this map,
to be my wall map, please ?

Please could you possibly provide,
or, how could I obtain,
a jpg or png or pdf, of this map,
for printing to A3 or A2 or A1, please ?

RSVP.
Best wishes, Michael Jenkins.

Hello Michael,

Thank you for your message and for your interest in the IPC world hunger map and somewhat OSM.

The grey background map you see is based on data from OpenStreetMap. OpenStreetMap (often called OSM) is a free, community-made map of the world. Volunteers collect and maintain geographic data (such as roads, cities, rivers, and boundaries), and anyone can use this base map under an open license - in that case Mapbox used the free data to create a visual map of the world and IPC used Mapbox.

However, the colored areas on the IPC map (showing food security phases) are not part of OpenStreetMap. They are an additional data layer placed on top of the OSM background. This is called an “overlay.” The data for these colored areas belongs to the IPC and is not stored in OpenStreetMap’s database.

Because of this, the OpenStreetMap community cannot provide a printable version of the full IPC map (with the colored hunger data). That request would need to be sent directly to the IPC organization, as they own and manage that specific data layer.

If you only need a printable map based on OpenStreetMap (without the IPC colored areas), you can create and download printable maps at: https://print.get-map.org

This service allows you to generate high-resolution maps suitable for printing in sizes such as A3, A2, or A1. Please note that these will only include OpenStreetMap data, not the IPC food security overlay.

For a printable version of the full IPC hunger map, I recommend contacting IPC directly via their website and asking whether they can provide a high-resolution image or PDF for print use.
