A darkened globe map on a background of stars. It is centered on North America. There are colorful circles around the edges of the continents and on the islands. Each, an individual light house, bouy etc. This is not animated but the website is very blinky. I would love to figure out what an accessible way to look at this data would be... hmmm. Another project.

The @weeklyOSM folks featured a neat lighthouse map a few weeks ago. It reminded me of an old Leaflet based lighthouse map -but- I really wanted globe view…

A few days of work (and adding support for even more kinds of blinky nautical tags), I present the lighthouse-map-libre.

Warning: it is very very blinky.

I also know basically nothing about maritime things so probably botched my support for some of the tags. If someone who DOES know, would review the test page and help me sort out which are broken and which are “correct” that would rule.

True, I just opened it for a quick glance, literally a Christmas tree :rofl:. Great work though. Maybe you could try to sync the frequency of the blinking to make it less blinding?

The markers currently completely disappear when they are ‘off’. Maybe leave a faint outline visible or add a always visible dot/symbol in the center so they can still be located.

Good call! There’s a few out in the ocean of really really long “period” and are quite funny to chase down.

I worry this may ruin the charm of it. lol

I’m currently working on support for the “sectors” tagging on things and that’s definitely going to add more blinks!

Understandable, and you are right about it. For someone who would use it during a maritime navigation, I guess it would help them having those lighthouses/buoys blink not-in-sync with each other (or even by color), to spot them easier.
