Hi all,
I wanted to present terrain-viewer, a tool already mentioned in a few threads on the OSM-fr forum - announcement made just today over here - that may be useful for mapping on OSM. Happy to answer any questions you might have!
It is built on MapLibre, originally just to:
- tinker with different rendering modes and symbologies on terrain sources like the great Mapterhorn (hillshade, contours, hypsometric color relief, basemaps, all configurable),
- export a DTM/DSM over a given AOI as a COG from a tiled source
- and to compare different world-wide sources side by side.
Recent additions have made it our go-to resource for all things propsective geo-archaeology / geo-morphometry, detecting features, mapping micro topo, measuring terrain etc:
- custom sources (bring your own data: COG, TMS TerrainRGB/Terrarium, WMS, etc.),
- advanced visualization modes (terrain analysis: slope, curvature, TPI, TRI, ruggedness; relief visualization: Sky View Factor, Local Relief Model, i.e. elevation relative to the neighbourhood),
- easier sharing of links and visualizations, better docs, walkthrough and other tools like terradraw multi-layer drawings, local COGs, sun shadow estimator etc, full changelog here.
- Aggregation of historical basemaps, from esri wayback, google earth, bing dated, everything in one place - saem tool, just another appMode, accessible here.
Here is a link showing IGN Lidar HD data preloaded, DTM on the left and DSM on the right. The side panel lets you change the symbology or data source, switch between 2D and 3D, use split view, or enable heavier modes such as Sky View Factor. etc. The documentation is here, and the whole repository is open source on GitHub for anyone interested.
Have a good day,
Jonathan
